Angela. I have been using *nix for years and the conclusion I have come to
is they are each very good at one thing. The best all rounder I think is
freeBSD
but very few organisations will have manager's gutsy/suicidal to back it.
Heres what I think databases go on solaris. Its scalable stays up and has
all tried and
trusted failover/redundancy 3rd_party products.
Linux redhat/debian for home grown applications. Its cheap as a development
and test platform
and has miles of third party products and it is easy to migrate people two
from windows or *nix.
Windows use to run GUI based interfaces where the user learning investment
is going to be minimal
e.g. call centres/CSR's/Customers.

As far as vax/SCO/DOS/plan 9/as400 etc... goes they each have great
qualities but none sufficent to
sustain any business decision I have ever made.

Now this may be thought a bit off topic but I just wanted to state why its I
think its best to use.
