Heh heh, well I built mine out of off the shelf parts (easy to repair).
My storage requirements aren't that large so a couple of 120Gb IDE
drives are what I went with. IN actuality I back up less than 40Gb
worth of data every night. However, you can create grandfathered
volume sets inside Arcserve media management so it gives me a little
room to work with.
The whole setup cost less than $1800... of course I already had the
tape drive and an Arcserve license. Going with IDE vs SCSI was a
gamble but kept costs down. So far I've no regrets over that decision
either, though I have had some other systems in the past running IDE
mirrors where the MTBF has reared it's head. Seems though that the
newer IDE drives fair much better.
