You might take a look at sysbkup/sysrestore which does exactly this:

Note I haven't updated them since Solaris 7 though.

You don't say which Solaris release, but older ones didn't use to
create the /dev/rmt/ nodes when booting from cdrom. All you need
to do is run tapes(1M). One thing to be aware of -- if you have
multiple tape devices, they may end up differently numbered when
you boot from cdrom than they are when you boot your regular
system.
