-- Depends on what you want it for, and how proficient you are in *n*x. For a home desktop with a "windows" feel, I'd give some form of Linux a go (most Linuces are extremely easy to install and set up these days, nearly all GUI-based, recognise most hardware etc) If you have some clue already, and want a rock-solid OS, choose Solaris. The path to enlightenment is long but the rewards are great. Don't expect the OS to hold your hand, and remember, use man and RTFM. If this seems a little generic, it's because you don't say what you want to use the box for, or what hardware you have, or how experienced you are.
