Hi,

We have a single master LDAP server (iPlanet Directory Server 5.1)
running on Solaris 9 and some replicas in each building. The clients
(Solaris 8+9) are set up to authenticate on the replicas (dedicated
consumers) to distribute the load and enhance availability. I created
the replication manager cn=replication manager,cn=config on the
consumer server. Replication works.

The users on the clients can login and get all LDAP naming services,
but the user cannot change the password using the passwd command. This
works only when the client authenticate on the LDAP master server
because the replication data goes from the master to the replica and
not backwards.

According to the system administration guide the consumer server does
not forward modification requests. The client must follow the referral
sent back by the consumer.

I entered the referral on the consumer server's console
(ldap://ldap-master:389/o=suffix) and the client profile contains
followReferrals: TRUE.

What's wrong that I can't change the password on the client using
passwd?

Thanks in advance for help

Regards,
Bernd
