Not to mention AOLs in-house use of thousands linux boxes in their
backplanes - displacing thousands of copies of Solaris...

Well, a bit of a real issue here... Linux does require the kernel be
aware a priori of what is pluggable and what is now. The hardware
datebases are not dynamic, but in the header files... even for USB...
please correct me if I'm wrong here...

Don't forget Quake2, Quake3 and everything from Id, Unreal Tournament
2k3. Also, games that run in Wine actually do execute %95 percent of
their code native, with DirectX calls basically being Thunked, and
OpenGL calls running just as native as in windows.

Also, Apache hosting perl/python, J2EE (Websphere, Weblogic, JBoss,
JRun, Orbix, iPlanet)... all running with complete Linux support, all
to the same specs. Orbix Enterpsie Edition, BTW, runs most of it's
services using native Corba services.

He's thinking WSYWIG, of course... but I guess has never used X.
Don't forget Vnc, which is cross-platform - can you use one client to
talk to windows and any other unix box at the same time?

Poop!

I really do wonder why so many people get so upset about this though.
I mean, I can understand getting annoyed by Bill Gates' indescretions
vis a vis the law, and Steve Job's arrogance in not letting people
even make compatible hardware... I can even understand dissing Linus
for proporting the name of what we use to be his, when nothing
would've been possible without gcc. But getting pissed at "Linux"
itself?

We should ask Daeron to go jump on the Toyota board and complain about
how terrible Toyota's are. If he drives a Toyota, then he should
just go and complain about Volkswagons. What a freak.

Cheers,
Dave
