        But they could have sold them on rather than bring them down.
        Seems like such a waste.

        I think so.

        Going back to something you said earlier when we were discussing
        trucking, you mention that California supplies most of the US's
        fruit and vegetables. I recall last October flying between Los
        Angeles and San Francisco. From the plane window the ground looked
        like a very light gray or off-white cream colour. I could see a
        fairly big canal which I gather was from Hoover Dam or elsewhere
        in the mountains. I could see plots of land but it didn't look
        very sustainable. Everything east of the Rockies looked far
        greener. Heck, I flew between Sydney and Melbourne about a
        month earlier and it was green all the way too; even though
        we've been in the grip of a fairly bad drought for over 2 years.
        So I was wondering why bother?
