I do not know about RH 8 or whatever, but as a RH 7 client it works
fine, as a server I do not know, why use a RH as a server wanna crash
and burn :))
As I said, the commercial version from ESP is working perfect out of the
box, I purchased my Solaris server license ESP for 3 years ago and it
have not failed once!
If you like you can use a GUI that will guide you thru the setup of both
PS aswell as HPGL plotters or use a CLI version.
All standard lp command are replaced with new tools with the same name
and there is a GUI lp so when printing you can chose queue and
properties like in windows before you print :)
Then on the client's which are license free, you only install the cups
deamon which talks to the server, so any change on the server, new
printer of whatever is informed to the clients. You can also redirect
queues if you have problems with one queue without any intervention from
the users on the clients.
As said, check the commercial ESP first, then one can experiment with
the free cups or purchase it, free choice.
