All:
I just installed Solaris 9 4/03 onto a Netra T1 AC 105 and I chose the
core install cluster. This is a server that will have very specific reasons
for running and thus I don't need much on it except the OS bare bones. The
big question is, what is bare bones? The package list for a core install is
very large still and there are some obvious things that can be pkgrm'd but
what are the not so obvious packages?
The list, untouched, is as follows :

I have a letter "R" to the left of the packages that I think I have no need
for and never will. What other ones can be killed off with no real impact on
a bare bones unit with internal SCSI disks and hme NICs ? There is no graphic
frame buffer, no keyboard or mouse. There is no need for either telnet or
ftp or any other network service of any shape or fashion that involves rpc,
NFS or ( heavean forbid) rsh. I need the TCP ( ver 4 ) stack and not much
else. I will be adding SUNWmd[uxr] ( SVM - DiskSuite ) as well as SUNWlibC.
I figure that the regulars of this group can probably spot a few that really
are not needed and then the newgroup would have that list as a matter of
public record.
Dennis
ps: I'll keep telnet around anyways, just in case I ever want/need it.
