Granted, but vastly better on Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro than on prior
versions; GUI admin tools haven't been the forte of any OS I can think of,
out of the box, with the exception of Netware 5.x (and Netware 4.x, though
the GUI tools had to run on a Windows or DOS box...)

Got both Wordpad and Notepad out of the box; as for compilers, having
compilers come as "part of the OS" and not as an extra-cost option is a VERY
Unixy way of doing things (and not even universal on commercial Unixen,
IIRC).

Equally hard, or harder, on monolithing Unix kernels, sans modules and not
always easier with modules. And where the "device drivers" administrative
tool disappeared to in the transition from NT4 to newer Windows' I don't
know.

As for ISA, that was just a very oldschool architecture and _no_ OS could
help any when resources were purely a matter of switching jumpers around.

As if Kernel panics/oopses on Linux, Bombs on the Mac, or Guru meditation
alerts were any more sensible.
