Not only is it the default, it's the only option on US-III
based machines.

Both should work just fine.

There's no OS reason why 32-bit Oracle apps won't work with a
64-bit Oracle, but there might be Oracle specific reasons why
this won't work (I don't know as I don't use Oracle).

Nope; if anything 64-bit apps might be SLIGHTLY slower,
but the benefits to a database (e.g., more than 4 GB VM)
can be considerable if you use a 64-bit version.

Another way to look at it is this: you might outgrow
your 32-bit Oracle, necessitating a move to a 64-bit
version. So you might as well start at the 64-bit
version now, and avoid that problem.
