It occurs to me that the DMA/graphics hardware will handle this,
AFTER the CPU(s) have ascertained where you want the window
to move to.

Are the Xserver and client on the same machine? I think they are, as this
sort of
thing doesn't seem to affect CPU usage on an Xclient with remote Xserver to
any
great discernible degree.

What sort of CPU horsepower does that machine have?

    On my Win2K desktop here (Intel PIV 1.8GHz, 1GB RAM), shoving an xterm
    window about within Exceed causes CPU usage as reported by the task
manager
    to shoot up to 40-50%.
