But if you don't feel motivated to actually set up a network wide scheme
such as NIS or LDAP, I would first check that the user id numbers of the two
users actually match on the two systems, because that's the "real" value at
issue here, not the name.
This will be obvious if you compare the two passwd files (same can be said
of groups as well).
