I've seen this before, but just the other way around.
After a patchcluster-install on a Sol8 box, my nsswitch.conf pointed to
NIS for authentication, but we don't have a NIS hanging around.
Maybe after your upgrade, your nsswitch.conf is pointing to files
instead of nis.
