Hey gang, here's what I got hooked up:
Cable connection from RCN (they lease out a dynamic IP which lasts 3-7
days at a time)
- Cable Modem: US Robotics/3COM HomeConnect (3CR29223)
- LinkSys 8-port Router: BEFSR81
What uses the router:
Sun Microsystem SunBlade 100, running Solaris 8, w/ patch 110380
Sony PCV-RX550 desktop, running Windows XP - Home Edition
Sony PCG-SRX3E laptop, also running Windows XP - Home Edition
(This is what I'm trying to JumpStart, I have the sol8installs from
here:
http://jsecom16a.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet?StoreId=8&PartDetailId=Sol8ML-2_02-IN-G-FR&TransactionId=try&LMLoadBalanced=
)
Dell Inspiron 4000, running Windows 2000 Professional

About the no-hostname issue:
I have dhcp running on the sun box. When I installed, I chose,
non-networked. When I booted, i touch'ed /etc/dhcp.eri0 and voila,
I'm 'online.' At this point, I still have no hostname. BTW, I
disabled /etc/rc2.d/S88sendmail, by renaming it s88sendmail. (If its
on it periodically outputs an error msg to the console, 'unknown
hostname') I heard of inputting a 'hostname' in /etc/hostname.xxy,
/etc/inet/hosts, and /etc/nodename. Tried that. init 6'ed. The system
just re-set what I placed in with 'unknown.' I tried creating the
set_hostname script at Rich Teer's rite-group.com site. That didn't
seem to work either. Also had edited the /etc/init.d/network script,
replacing hostname="unknown" with something else. That actually
caused my system to crash, putting it into Single user mode.
uuummmm....yeah. Also tried editing the /etc/inet/hosts script. eh.
Comments anyone?
Asan.
