It isn't possible to use the Ray 100/150's as standalone monitors -
although, I guess if you're handy with circuitry and a soldering iron it
might be possible. Realistically though, I'm afraid it's a no go at the
present. On the SR150 the VGA port is intended for an external projector
or similar, not input.
I've heard rumours that the Sun Ray server software will be made to "run
in a Linux environment", though whether or not that's true or in some
way misinterpreted I don't know - for the moment however it's either
Solaris/SPARC or an ergonomic doorstop :(.
You mention that it's not being used currently - this implies to me
there are some sun systems around the building and if you could hijack
one on the same subnet, it is possible to install the server software in
its version 2 incarnation and run it on a mixed segment of ethernet -
although you will probably want to manually add the MAC-address to the
dhcp server on that box so as not to disrupt everyone else. A server
need not be a high spec system, and a dual or even single 300 with a
fair bit of memory wouldn't be too painful, but it may end up being more
work than you think it's worth.
Sorry I don't have better news.
Alex.
