I am very new to solaris, and I am trying to learn the system as I go. I
am not sure where to put installed software. Silly question? yes , yes
it is. here is my reasoning. I come from a heavy BSD background with a
tad of linux to through in the mix. In the case that I were either
installing software from source, or just not from any specific package
management system, I would do the following.
example. I just downloaded mozilla-sparc 1.8a (Yes i am aware this is
considered unstable). In a BSD or linux system, i would immediately
through the mozilla dir to /usr/local/mozilla/. Looking at the solaris
file system layout, I dont see a /usr/local/. I could just go and make
it, but the wouldn't help me learn how to do things the way Sun thinks
they should be done.
