Like Mr. Paul, I assume you are talking about mirrored root partitions.
We have run into the problem where, during the installation of a
patch_cluster, something happened and the OS would not reboot. It
was a big headache the first time, but since then we solved the problem
procedurally.

Prior to the installation of a patch_cluster we disconnect the mirror.
Then we install everything and reboot the system. If everything works
Ok, we reconnect the mirror and go on our merry way. We haven't had
any problems since we started doing it this way.
