I'd read what's embossed on the drive door, myself. Mine says
"Compact Disc" and "DVD ROM", by which I deduce it'll read both
CDs and DVDs, but won't burn anything (why won't Sun ship a
burner in their desktops? It's very irritating).

That's for a Sun proprietary Smart Card, as I believe it says
in the 1500 docs. You'll probably never use it.

Up front you get two USB 1.1 ports, a headphone jack, and a microphone
jack. The two integral USB ports in the back intended for your keyboard
and mouse are also 1.1, but it'll ship with a PCI card preinstalled
that has three USB 2.0 and two FireWire ports. You get jacks for
speakers, line in and another jack that goes to the microphone
input. The 1500 also has its own internal speaker, that unlike a
PC speaker actually connects to the sound hardware.

Every 1500 has sound on the system board.

1500s only ship in a few configurations, and in all the matters you cite,
they're all configured the same. So if anything's different, it'll
be because you changed it.
