Its an old but nippy machine with BX chipset, but onboard ide only does
udma33 and limited large
disk support. It does work with my current 20 gig disk, But I have a
new127gig ATA100 7200 rpm
 waiting for solaris.

Update: With Sol9 installed, I connected HD to controller and booted up as
far as partition boot menu, selected SOL partition, then boot went straight
into Device Config Assistant.

I have installed the latest (I think) release of sol 9x86 (9/04 ?), so it
seems to
go into assistant by default. Maybe if I could avoid this might be some
progress.

"Probing" identifies "PCI:Mass Storage Controller" but Select boot device
screen
does not show any other device to boot from apart from CDROM (on mboard IDE)
and NET card.
