Solaris 2.6 on an UE450
We have a requirement where we will have to store about 100 000 small gif
images on the server. The images will be served through the web. There will
NOT be many hits on the files. There are lots of files, but maybe 5-6 files
displayed per 15 minutes total.
Is there a problem in having directories with HUGE number of files in them
(in excess of 30000) ? I think I have read somewhere that it might impact
the file system cache.
There is also a database running on the server and I don't want this to slow
things down.
If I recall correctly, the file systems on the machine were created with a
low inode density (mkfs because this is a database server, and it was not
supposed to have may files. Is there a way of changing that AFTERWARD ?
Is there also a way to determine the maximum number of files I can put in a
directory ?
Thanks a LOT
