Apparently your Solaris OS version includes USB mass storage devices
in "format" without the need to use format's "-e" option. Are you
using Solaris 8?

Another hint that you're not using the latest USBA 1.0 mass storage
drivers, but the older USBA 0.0 drivers.
Check the Solaris USB-FAQ, I think it would be a good start to install
the latest USB patch for your OS and configure Solaris USB to use the
the newer USBA 1.0 framework:
