The PC, running Linux, is pushing high end Unix hardware out of it's jobs
while doing the same job better. The current PC is damn good hardware.
Maybe it's not "real Unix hardware" because Unix chokes on it (well, BSD
doesn't, runs pretty damn well on it as a matter of fact, so BSD must be a
rare exception), but it is the really good *Linux* systems running on
good hardware that is driving Unix into the ground in virtually every
market.

Example? Look at Hollywood, where SGI IRIX machines are headed to the
garbage bin, and Linux on Intel hardware has become the norm for high end
editing and effects work. Those are people that demand quality, power, and
performance....and they aren't getting it from Unix.

Engineers and scientists the world over are using Linux based workstations
now. In fact the most powerful desktop workstations are Linux based.

This isn't "real hardware"?

The fact of it is that Unix is the old generation, being replaced by the
younger, more vital Linux.
