The number you gave is still pretty slow. On my Linux to Linux system
(Intel 586 to 586, 600 MHz ea0ch), a 97 GB file transferred in 8
seconds.

Note, regarding the reference about the switch, we've eliminated this
being the possibility by using a cross-over cable.
