Hi all,

It is now a couple of days I am deep into solaris, I have installied it
on my Ultra60 machine and use it via serial/network from my linux laptop.
I am not new to unix, I know very well FreeBSD and Linux, but with
Solaris I don't feel at home :(
So the first question is: could anyone suggest a place, a web site,
where to find goot docs? I of course downloaded (and started to read)
the pdfs found on docs.sun.org, but I still cannot find some infos I am
missing, like how is the whole filesystem organized or how works the
boot procedure, how are organized logs and so on... does a book or
document like this exists?

Also, and this is connected, I am using Xnest on my laptop and I would
like to use CDE (no javadesktop thnx) but it does not work.
/var/dt/Xerrors reports:

/usr/openwin/bin/xset: bad font path element (#45), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

I know this is something like a FAQ, I already found the answer googling
a bit, I don't have dt fonts on my linux machine so I have 2 choices: a-
copy dt fonts over my linuxbox b- use the solaris fontserver
neither works, I mean, I cannot find where dt fonts are and I cannot
configure the fontserver to use those fonts either. (btw where the hell
is the font server started?)

I don't know if it is me or what but I find the whole system very
confused, I mean, when I started to use freebsd it tooks me a little
time to get deep into the system configuration, that happened probably
because of the very good handbook the freebsd folks mantain (is there
anything like it for Solaris?) ...but also because rc scripts, binaries,
config files, all are installed in the proper directory and not messed
up in a hundred dirs and subdirs I cannot remember the name of (did I
told you about my problem with memory? ;))

anyway, I don't want to start a flame, what you read above is the result
of several hours passed cursing this and that searching for the right
tool or config file to do the right thing...I guess I just need some mor
time to spend over it :P

thnx in advance for anyone willing to help.

Ciro.
