You have TERM=sun if you come from a Linux system? I would have expected
TERM=linux. How do you login from your Linux box to your SS20?

In addition, the output of following commands could be of interest:

   pkginfo -l SUNWcsu
   md5sum /usr/bin/edit

I am not aware of any issues causing vi to segfault under Solaris 9.
But it might be useful to check the entire environment to look for
unusual settings (locale, for example).

Another idea is to look for the vi sources in the Open Solaris source
tree and to compile them for Solaris 9 using the ``-g'' flag and to
see if this segfaults as well and, if this is the case, to debug it.

You are also free to install vim from blastwave.org.

Andreas.
