I think you're spreading fud.
While I do agree and acknowledge that the 'smpatch' issue is a bit
strange at times, your comments about Solaris Express are sounding like
a nice troll to me.
This evening I just finished installing Solaris 10 3/5 on my latest
purchase; a Sun Blade 100. Everything is setup and right now I'm
enjoying a remote X login session from my Debian workstation. So far, so
good.
I just setup smpatch on the Blade to utilize my Squid proxy server
(running on Solaris 10/x86) and started "smpatch analyze". This resulted
in a large list of available patches, and not merely security based
since I also saw Gnome and Mozilla patches passing my screen. I just
started an 'update' so that my Blade is soon up to date.
Still, I do agree that something odd is going on. At this moment my
Blade is happily grabbing patches (however, I get a lot of "installer
cannot find the patch" errors) but my x86 box only responds with:
magi:/home/peter $ smpatch analyze
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: Server
returned HTTP response code: 403 for URL:
https://getupdates.sun.com/solaris/
Considering the fact that I have a service plan yet have no idea how I
can enable my Sparc update I do agree that things are rather fuzzy.
