there should be a log file around somewhere that
says why package XYQ wasn't installed. i know that
if the package prompts the user, ie, if there's a request
script in the package, that won't get pushed to the zone.
none of the OS packages should fall into that category.

(look in /var/sadm for the logfile....)

also, some packages are built with SUNW_THISZONE=true
(spelling may be wrong). i think that's not the case
with anything that comes with the OS. still, i find that
my personal packages are better off getting installed to
zones one at a time.

if the files aren't in packages, then i'm fairly
confident that they will not be carried to the local zones.

wondered that myself. i know you can delete packages.
i'm beginning to think that the global zone must be
a superset of packages in the local zones. i have
not yet encountered official documentation of that.

don't know. my guess is that if you were willing to parse
the /var/sadm/install/contents file, you'd be able to find
out which files are declared "editable", and my hunch is
that editable files are carried forward.

errrr, that is, i think all files must be in packages, but,
assuming you're speaking of packaged files, then i don't
know.
