Typically the disk is ATA but the interface to your box is USB 2.0 ...
Conversion is transparent

I got mine from Addonics but apparently Belkin works very well too.
What I liked about Addonics was I ordered on line and it arrived
the next DAY in Canada from California. 24 hour turn around.
And the fact they even mention Solaris/SPARC on their website.

Definitely

I suppose. I do not put anything "critical" on my USB drive. Its for
archiving
and gennerall messing about.
A caveat. This is a "removeable media" device. vold may attempt to
format the drive
in a very clumsy 'binary' manner. Also the drive will mount on
/rmdisk/"label name"
with strange ownership/group - nobody as I recall.
Also I had some problems with rmformat but I cant recall what they were

So I turned off vold, used format -e and chose an EFI label type to
make 1 partition.
Otherwise I couldnt use the whole disk for one partition. Then I was
able to newfs
slice 0. I added an appropriate entry to /etc/vfstab. As long as I turn
on the
USB drive first and turn it off last, the USB disk behaves like any
other disk.
So if you want to have a small critical partition do the above. Anyway
just get
the stuff then youll see what bridges you may have to cross.
