my enemy smpatch

There's an update for the java VM available on solaris 10.
Running 'smpatch update' failes with plenty of useless messages. It tells me dozens of times, that something has failed and that it's terminating.
Do you have any idea how to install this patch and any other patches that refuse to install for any reason in the future?
I also tried the updatemanager, but it also fails, since it seems to be a gui for smpatch onyl.
