Heh. Reminds me of the time one of my previous managers decided that
instead of assigning the task to me, he'd do it himself.

It was a user deletion script, done in sh. Only, he hadn't checked for
null variables or error return codes, so...

rm -rf $PATH/$USER became 'rm -rf /' because $PATH and $USER were null
due to a code bug. He also hadn't tested the script against erroneous
input, or tested it at all, before putting it into production use.

I'd never seen the CEO literally beet red until he stomped into the data
center and demanded that I start restoring files right there and then.
That was my first sign of disaster in progress.

Luckily, I'd just happened to install Legato Networker two days before.
Hadn't even had a chance to test restores, and my job now depended on
restoring the lost files. Fortunately, it worked like a charm. :)

Once I told him stuff was restored, he cooled down just enough to turn
'merely reddish' instead of 'beet red' and stomped out a little less
forcefully, still grumbling and muttering under his breath. ;)

I later figured out what was the culprit behind the mysterious
disappearance of all these dirs and files -- the user deletion script.

I also subsequently banned my boss from doing admin tools. ;) I asked
him to leave the admin stuff to me, and in return, I'd leave management
stuff to him. Deal.

Worked out great after that, as it kept both of us out of hot water so
we had a pretty good vested interest in making the most of that
agreed-upon arrangement.
