-P will not work if the profile is TLS based, use the script I posted earlier to do the trick for TLS based profile.

If you apply latest LDAPv2 patch 108993 (back ported patch of Solaris9Thanks for the clue. Although showrev suggested 108993-49 was installed,
ldap client), Solaris8 LDAP client should behave the same as Solaris9
for instance it could use version 2 syntax of ldap_client_file and etc...
attempting to reinstall that patch failed because of missing dependant
packages (ppp etc) So perhaps it wasn't installed properly? I reapplied the
patch using patchadd -u...
But ldapclient *still* didn't take the same args as Solaris 9's. Grr. So I
stole the ldap_client_file from a working Solaris 9 box and that seems to
have done the trick!
Have you tried a profile?
ldapclient -P profilename 192.168.20.10
The profile I use works across my solaris 8, 9, & 10
boxes. Plus, when you make a change to the profile, it
will propogate across your network.
I always fully patch a system before configuring ldap
as that's usually the best time to do it - especially
when switching from nis to ldap.
