Did you use the appropriate type of terminator (it's an LVD/SE
and so you need the appropriate type of terminator)

The terminator came of a HP DLT80 that was woring on an Adaptec
29160, which I beleive is also LVD/SE, isn't it. And the tape drive
is an HP Model Q1539B.

Sounds like it should work.

One thing I noticed with the VHD connectors used is that you
really *must* screw them down tightly or they will not work.

And screw down the terminator and the cable connecting the
tape drive.

Can you give me some guidance as to how to get there?

My limited experience suggests that you would see the
BIOS when it is scanning all the other devices
(i.e., not from the "Setup" BIOS but when it starts scanning
devices during post)

But I'd first double check the cabling.

I've got the exact same PCI-X card in a X4200 connected to
a HP Ultrium LTO 3 drive and it works just fine (after
I'd connected the cables firmly and power cycled the tape
drive)

Again, thanks for the help.

I just tightened the cables, and power cycled the tape.

Still nothing in /dev/rmt

I was siting in front of the machine this time, when I
did the reboot -- -r, as opposed to yesterday, when I was remote.

I notice a total of 4 error messages on the console as it booted.
They were the same thing repeated twice.

The first gave a hardware path that was a PCI device, and says "map
failed". The next one gave, what appears to be the same path
and said attach failed.

I think these are the same messages I posted from /var/adm/messages
yesterday. Any words of wisdom on this?

One point of fear here is that the PCI card in question is a 64bit
PI card, and the Ultra 40 only has 32 bit PCI slots. Having said
that the Adaptec card I mentioned earlier was also a 64 bit card
and has worked happily in a Compaq server under Linux for years
in a 32 bit slot.

Probably just a point of fear, since I'm having a hard time getting this
working.

What can I try next?

And thanks again for the help!
