I'll try the easy ones. . . .
1. What does the pkgadd command do?
pkgadd installs a software pacage.
2. How do you create a solaris package?
pkgmk
3. How do you view shared memory statistics?
4. How do you get system diagnostics information?
5. What is OBP and how do you access it?
OBP is Open Boot PROM. You access it from the "ok" prompt. You can get to the ok prompt by holding down "stop" and typing "A".
6. What is LOM and how do you access it?
Lights Out Management. Access via dedicated serial port.
7. What is VTS?
8. What is an alternative to the "top" command on Solaris?
prstat
9. What is /etc/system for?
Setting kernel parameters
10. What does ndd do?
Sets device driver parameters. In particular it sets network interface parameters. Can also be used to set TCP/IP parameters.
11. What does init 5 do?
brings the system to run-level 5; prepares the system for power-off and turns power off if the hardware supports it.
12. What does init 0 do?
Shut down to the firmware prompt.
13. How do you boot from CD-ROM?
Insert a bootable CDROM in the CDROM drive. At the ok prompt type "boot
cdrom"
14. What is jumpstart?
A method of installing the Solris OE.
15. How do you boot from a Network with jumpstart?
boot net -install
16. What is JASS?
A tool used to "harden" a system by closing security vulnerabilities.
17. What is the difference between NFS version 2 and NFS version 3?
18. What is RPC? Why do I need it?
19. Are kernel parameters tunable during runtime?
You can set new kernel parameters during runtime but they do not take effect until reboot.
20. What does fmthard do?
fmthard updates the VTOC (Volume Table of Contents) on a hard disk. It is typically used to format and partition a disk to duplicate the partitioning on another disk disk.
