We have L100 attached to a netbackup server and we are having the

The time it takes with 4 drives is 12 hours. I wana to implement san

we have free HBA's in the boxes. What needs to be done to implement SAN
backups?

1) Think about why it takes 12 hours.
Is it because the drives are old and slow or is it because
you have a 100 Mbit network.
2) would a gigabit LAN solve the problem ?
3) one of theways to implement SAN backup is to
install a fiber to SCSI brige in front of the L100 and
attache the Fiber end of the Bridge to the SAN,
Then buy some NDMP software for the HDS
and som more software from Symantec to NDMP enable
Netbackup. this would make it possible for the HDS
to talk directly to the L100 and send the Metadata to netbackup.
4 ) anotherway to do it is to make every Database server its own
backup server. and install so called SAN drive shareingsoftware
on each server. Then all you Database servers would Share ( compete )
for the drives
This makes the servers run the backup and not the HDS as in (3)
