1) I installed Solaris 10 updated 1 on my Ultra 80 from the same set of CDs I've done so before. This time there was a failure on the 3rd CD, which I think got damaged. So I notice a message about a checksum failure and then one about failed package(s) being removed.
I carried on and the machine boots OK. But where is the error logged? I'd like to correct it if I can, and add back any package(s) missing.
2) I note that Star Office 7 is not installed - I thought that would be even from the CDs, or does on need to do a DVD install for that? Or perhaps a problem of the checksum failure.
You've answered your own question. About the only thing on CD3 is
Staroffice. You can confirm this by looking in the logs in
/var/sadm/install_data
Scott
I can't see any errors in /var/sadm/install_data/install_log which is rather odd.
sparrow / # grep Solaris /var/sadm/install_data/install_log

Yet not all of the 3rd CD is installed. After writing the 3rd iso to a new CD, I see there are 6 packages on that CD:
sparrow / # ls /cdrom/sol_10_106_sparc_3/Solaris_10/Product
SUNWjai SUNWjai-imageio SUNWsoagm SUNWsoam SUNWsogm SUNWsom
But of those 6, 3 are not installed.
sparrow / # pkginfo `ls /cdrom/sol_10_106_sparc_3/Solaris_10/Product`
JAI SUNWjai Java Advanced Imaging

application SUNWsogm GNOME Menu Integration for the StarOffice Office Productivity Suite
ERROR: information for "SUNWsoagm" was not found
ERROR: information for "SUNWsoam" was not found
ERROR: information for "SUNWsom" was not found
I guess I could force the installation of SUNWsoagm, SUNWsoam and SUNWsom, but I'm not sure if that is the best way. And in any case, the fact I can find no errors logged is a bit odd. Cleraly the system is not fully installed, since StarOffice does not run.
