There is a GTK frontend for CUPS named gtklp, you can download it from

I've tended to administer CUPS by browsing <http://localhost:631/> - do
the separate tools do anything different/useful?
Yes. Gtklp allows you to change your printer settings (printer
selection, printout order, brightness/gamma correction, number of
copies, PPD, printout mode, etc.) using a dialog without having to start
your browser (most people know this from Windows). It's quite useful if
you want change your printer quickly. Example: I have changed the print
command in Firefox to use gtklp, so when I print a website, gtklp opens
the dialog so that I can choose wether I want to use my standard
Laserjet or the CUPS-Pdf-Printer.
The only thing gtklp doesn't allow is to create/delete printers. This
still has to be done using the web interface.
