I haven't used that library, but page (5-7) suggests that the library
does have a random-access mode rather than simple sequential access.
Got the manual from the Quantum web site, and in the install addemdum
for Solaris 2.6 and up it clearly states that the SCSI driver for
magtape units is the prain-dead component, because it doesn't support
the changer part of the hardware being on SCSI 4 and the drive being on
SCSI 0.
Next question: Any one know of a way to fool Solaris into thinking I
have TWO tape drives (one on 0, the other on 4)? Or am I going to wind up
rewriting the driver.....
We might be talking past each other... mtx wants the tape drive itself
as an st device, and the changer mechanism as an sg device- thus st does
not use the changer at all. If the changer is symlinked as
/dev/changer, then mtx will use it directly.
I ran a 5 tape Quantum DLT4000 unit off Solaris 9 on an Ultra 1 for
several years till the drive died.
