In Intel Platform, I have changed the controller from 1 to 0 in

Why did you do that?
I restarted and changed the controller of the IDE
hard disk.
Did you physically move the disk to another controller?
When it boots up, only the root file system / is mounted.
The /usr file system is not mounted. i have taken a backup of the
original VFSTAB file in /etc. But i am unable to use any commands such
as CP or VI editor or Mount in Single user mode since /usr file system
is not loaded. how to change the settings and get the machine ok.
The problem is that there are probably no device files created for
anything on controller 0 since there were no disks there before. So
there's no device to mount the root from.
There are some ways to create the device files while booted from a CD
rom (mount root, run devfsadm with alternate root), but that's kind of
tricky. I don't know if it will succeed for you.
What are you hoping to accomplish by changing the number?
