I assume that you mean Sun Solaris Software since the "new" invention PCI bus and card does not know or care to much of the host(Sparc)!
You can add a Silicon Image SIL 0680A based card like this

It works everywhere with IDE > 250 but not with Sun Sparc Hardware.
I you instead would you a proper HW specified interface like SCSI you would be amazed, things we did in mid 80's still work with new SCSI devices!!
