Why does this question of running todays OS/GUI on 8 years old

hardware come up continuosly ?

would you run Windows XP on a PC from 1998 ?

trying to do these sort of things will newer be a satisfactory
experience.


1. How much better/responsive will the experience be if I buy a creator
3D card?


I wont matter at all unless you get the 1 GB RAM first.



2. I also have a PC running Solaris 10. And JDS feels clunky, even
when compared to running FreeBSD/Debian GNOME. {AthlonXP 2400+, 512
MB}. So my question is can I have a trimmed down install of Solaris 10
without JDS? Perhaps only CDE, and may be WindowMaker?



Same problem, to little RAM.

It'll work but would be paging a lot.

3. I believe KDE comes on the companion CD-ROM. In the x86 version, KDE
produces no sound due to some issues with arts. Is it the same on SPARC
version? Do we get sound?


KDE on the companion CD is antique !
