Are you using the XVR-100 on an Ultra 10? Sun site doesn't mention
anything about its suitability with Ultra Workstations. Is it a PCI
VGA card?

It is. It has both VGA and DVI outputs, and 64MB of RAM. You can drive
two monitors at once using Xinerama.

I have heard that it is a clone of ATI Rdeon 7000 PCI card. Hopefully,
buying an ATI (cheap) should work for me.

If you want to use it as a console, you will need the OBP support in
the XVR-100. On a PC card you won't see anything until the X server
starts.

from Unixville.com:
"Sun just introduced the Sun Ultra 25 which runs on an UltraSparc-IIIi
processor and supports up to 8GB of RAM. The CPU is actually pretty
slow and rated at 1.3Ghz, but what gets me is the price. $2,895
starting price?

I don't mean to be rude, but what are they smoking?! And worse, it
ships with the so called Sun XVR-100, aka ATI Radeon 7000. Nice, a
$25-$35 video card at best, with horrible performance. I'm a fan of
Sun stuff, but this machine is just 100% brain dead."

If you've older binaries to run, and no source code, buying these
machines (even a lot of them) is far cheaper than redeveloping the
application. Or if you want to replace older workstations like the SB
[1,2]K, you'll find that the price (after discount) is less than the
cost of their annual maintenance).

Nobody pays list.
