3511 isn't supported as JBOD and at least with 500gb drives
it doesn't even work properly.
ugh! I was going to try and use 750GB drives in a 3511. Why would a JBOD
care about the size of the disks?
To clarify - 3511 with 500gb work fine with a head unit.
However when I tried it as JBOD I experienced some problems
with writing do disks - probably a firmware problem, or sata-router, or...
But if you have a head unit it should work ok.
What is a head unit? I guess you're referring to a raid controller?
I just got a 3511 JBOD yesterday, put 5x750GB disks in it and it works
well. It is direct attached to a v210 running s10u1. No raid
controller, no 3510/3511 raid unit in front of it.
This is with an apple pci-x FC card (lsi 7202xp) with copper cables.
I did get these errors
Aug 18 12:02:57 test scsi: WARNING: /pci@1d,700000/IntraServer,fc@1/ssd@4,0 (ssd4):
Aug 18 12:02:57 test Corrupt label; wrong magic number
Mode sense page(3) reports nsect value as 0, adjusting it to 1408
but after labelling the disks they stopped. Also, I couldn't use
fmthard to put a label on the unlabelled disks, I got some geometry
unknown error. But format worked. I haven't tried fmthard again
after labelling with format.
My testing is just making multiple copies of the s10 dvd.

Any standard 750 will work?
There is nothing proprietary about the housing?
