I'm experimenting with QFS on iSCSI LUN devices. When I add a second
device to the configuration, I can use `samgrowfs' to expand the QFS
filesystem just like the documentation says. But if we expand the
underlying iSCSI LUN on the storage server, I can relabel it with
`format' to get a larger device, but QFS never notices the additional
space.
I don't believe you can currently expand a QFS LUN in this way. (I'll
check tomorrow.) If you could, it might require adding a new metadata
device to hold the expanded allocation bitmap. (I know, that could be
stored in the middle of the LUN, but I don't think that project has
been finished yet.)
Thanks for the response. More recently, I've been experimenting with
VXFS in this same environment. That filesystem can take advantage of
expanded space in the LUN, at least according to the document. I'll
test it to be sure, but I expect it to work. This feature is quite
convenient when the storage device allows LUNs to be expanded.
