Hi to all,
because of moving our server rooms completely to a new location
we are planning to migrate all storage to EMC.
Furthermore we are running SF12Ks but we are not very satisfied
with them, because:
- Maintenance downtimes for upgrading SMS software for all
applications running on SF12K
- Several problems with SB- and IO-Boards in the past
- Moving to new server rooms is difficult to plan because
of 6 production applications on SF12K.
What we want to have are standalone servers like SUN 3900 etc.
BUT:
Telling our CIOs that we want to have storage migration
but don't want to have server migration could be difficult
to explain.
Are there any other proposals to have standalone servers
instead of SF12Ks???
What are your experiences with SF12/15/20/25K??
Thanks in advanced.

What's an "SF12K"?
I can tell you that EMC is the most expensive storage on the planet! It's good but you'll pay three or four times what any other vendor would charge.
EMC will not support any EMC equipment that you did not purchase from EMC! That means that there is no used equipment market; you can sell it back to EMC for whatever pittance they choose to give you or just throw it away.
Sun Fire 12000
The problem is not the EMC storage. We got enough of that stuff to migrate to.
Problem is to explain the CIOs to take standalone servers instead of SF12K.

Lots of luck then. The PHBs take a lot of convincing and often it's not possible at all!
