No it is by far the most terrible home os you can think off. It's good

Use Linux or FreeBSD and if this does not help then even HP-UX is a
much more user friendly OS then
Solaris.
This sounds like advertisment to my ears. Usually, OS for "human
beeings" or "user friendly" crap is worst choice for me and many
professional users I know. Viva Solaris!
And solaris on ix86 is sluggish - don't know why but the scheduler of
an untuned out of box Solaris 10u3
installation is terrible, no matter if i install it on a 2,8 GHz PIV
or an AthlonX2 4400.
Not true. It is almost equally fast as RHEL 4 on x86_64. It uses IA
scheduler by *default* (this is good for workstations). Sometimes in
some cases even faster.
So from the beginnings
you have to walk through a lot of manuals to find the options in the
thousand differnet config files.
Really nasty. Poor little users. :-(
Might be
good for server - especially large networks - but the Sun Developers
are not willing to add an easy single
workstation mode like every Linux has.
.... and keep it that way.
So if you hobby is Unix then chance is high that you like the most
advanced Textadventure on the planet.
