You reckon? Why is it every time I do a Windows install, I have to
redo it half-a-dozen times? And my wife hates it when I do Windows
stuff because of the days of temper tantrums & foul language?
Maybe you didn't follow the directions? I don't do Windows installs
very often but I don't recall ever having to redo one because the
first try failed. I've installed Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 98-2nd Ed., W2K
and W/XP. Let's face it, if a moron couldn't install windows there
wouldn't be many people using it! ;-)
Every time I have to install Windows, a lot of guesswork is involved in
my case too. Do I have to insert the CD-ROM with the custom, thirdparty
video adapter drivers first and *then* follow the on-screen prompts
about "New hardware found"? Do I have to wait for the fancy dialog
windows to *ask* me to insert the CD-ROM? What if it doesn't? If
there's already a "standard VGA" driver attached to the video adapter,
is there something special I should do to "detach" it? etc.
Repeating the same guesswork, ad-infinitum every time a new device is
added (sound card, modem, NIC, USB flash disk, and so on), gets really
old pretty fast.
Having said all this, it may just me and my hate of the Windows way of
doing things... I'm not very keen on installing the damned thing many
times, to see what's wrong, however. Solaris and FreeBSD work quite
fine for my own needs and "way of thinking" :)
