No, I'd just much rather use SW on system disks - partly because I
always have (being a Sun person) but also having watched (& experienced
in some cases) endless sagas of doom and loss with Linux & Windows boxes
with system disks mirrored with HW RAID where either no one realised
until too late that a disk had died, or they did realise but it turns
out the RAID controller wasn't too good at letting you actually replace
a failed disk (both of these were with systems made by a very reputable
manufacturer). I reckon that the kind of RAID controller I trust is the
kind where I can log into it to see what it's doing.

It also frees you from the RAID controller hardware. If you live
somewhere where parts are difficult and or expensive to get, this is a
real blessing.
