I have a Solaris 9 system that is apparently running iplanet SunONE
directory services (5.x). This LDAP server has been running just fine
for quite some time now. The other day there was a planned power
outage but the generator had a problem so we were forced to shut the
system down. When we started the server back up, the LDAP directory
services didn't start. There were no errors of any kind, it's just
that slapd wasn't running. When I attempt to start it with either /
etc/rc.d/S72directory start or the more direct /usr/sbin/
directoryserver start, the command executes, I get a prompt back
immediately, but the server doesn't actually start. There is no error
and nothing in either /var/adm/messages or /var/log/syslog.
Is there a way to get it to run in some sort of debug/verbose mode so
I can start to determine what exactly is wrong?
BAH! Silly me. Turns out there appear to be a couple of
installations of LDAP on this server and I was trying to start the
wrong one. DOH! Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.
