When you unpack the x86.miniroot, try just pkgadd'ng the SUNWips
package:
# pkgadd -d /tmp -R /tmp/unpacked
Then continue with the procedure above.
I don't have an IBM serveRAID, but I have successfully network
installed using those instructions and LSI Logic's mega_sas package.
